Basingstoke Christmas markets 2026: dates, prices, booking

Four Christmas markets in and around Basingstoke have dates for 2026, and they run at four very different prices: free, £1, £9.50 and £10. Two of them need booking ahead. One of the biggest ones from last year has quietly disappeared.

The dates at a glance

Milestones Christmas Market: the big one, and you must prebook

Milestones Museum turns its indoor Victorian streets over to a Christmas market for one weekend, and it is the borough’s largest.

• Hours: Saturday 10am to 7pm, Sunday 10am to 4.45pm
• Price: £10 a person
• Where: Milestones Museum, Leisure Park, Churchill Way West, Basingstoke RG22 6PG
• Booking: prebooking is essential

The museum promises more than 40 stalls, of which 17 are dressed in Victorian period style, with handmade crafts, local makers and seasonal treats. Mulled wine, mince pies and hot drinks are on sale, and there is live music.

The two-day format is worth planning around: the Saturday runs three and a quarter hours later than the Sunday, so if you want the market after dark under the museum’s street lighting, Saturday evening is the only chance.

One inconsistency to ignore. Love Basingstoke’s listing for the market gives an end time of “6th December 2026 at 0:00 am”, which would mean it closes at midnight on the Saturday. The museum’s own page is the one to trust: Sunday runs to 4.45pm.

Carols by Candlelight, also at Milestones

The museum’s other festive event is two weeks later.

• Dates: Friday 18 and Saturday 19 December 2026, from 6pm
• Price: £9.50 a person, children under 5 free

It is a Victorian-style carol evening with a live band and professional vocals, by candlelight, through the museum’s streets. Victorian dress is encouraged and there is a stall selling lanterns on the night. Festive food and drink are served throughout.

Hatch Warren Christmas Market: £1 in, and Santa books in October

The cheapest ticketed market in the borough is at the Hatch Warren and Beggarwood Community Association.

• Date: Sunday 22 November 2026, 12pm to 4pm
• Price: £1 a person
• Where: Hatch Warren Community Centre, Long Cross Lane, Basingstoke RG22 4XF

Stalls sell gifts, handmade crafts and seasonal food, with mulled wine and mince pies. There is a chance to meet Father Christmas, and this is the detail to diarise: bookings for Santa open in October, separately from the £1 entry. If you want a slot, watch the association’s events page from the start of that month.

The same weekend the association runs its Lager Festival on Saturday 21 November, at £7.50 a person, so the community centre is busy across both days. It also runs a coach trip to Bath Christmas Market on Saturday 28 November at £30 a head, which is a reasonable alternative if you want a big-city market without driving.

The free one: Festive Friday, 20 November

The town centre’s own Christmas market is part of Festive Friday, the evening the council’s road closure calls the Christmas light switch-on.

• Price: free, no ticket
• Where: Top of the Town, Basingstoke town centre

In 2025 the market took in jewellery, homemade brownies, cookies and cakes, beer, cider and spirits, knitted and crocheted gifts, candles, wood carvings and children’s craft packs, with Top of the Town restaurants serving food from outside their premises. The 2026 stallholder list is not out yet; Love Basingstoke’s listing says only “check back for more details coming soon”, and the last two years’ announcements landed in early November.

The Malls festive market has gone quiet

The Malls ran a festive market last year that opened daily from mid November to early January, with free entry and choir performances around the tree. For 2026 there is no announcement, and both pages that used to carry it now return 404: the centre’s own Christmas page and Love Basingstoke’s listing for it. Search results still point at both.

We are not calling it cancelled. Shopping centre programmes are often published late, and a market that opens in mid November could reasonably be announced in October. But as at 4 September there is nothing to book and nothing to plan around, and the pages that describe it have been taken down rather than updated.

Festival Place has published nothing for Christmas 2026 either. The listing that ranks for its switch-on is dated 16 November 2019.

Getting there and parking

Milestones is on the Leisure Park off Churchill Way West, about a mile from the town centre, and has its own free car park. It fills on market weekends.

Hatch Warren Community Centre is off Hatch Warren Lane in the south west of the town. The association asks visitors to its larger events to use the Sainsbury’s car park rather than the site.

The Top of the Town is a ten-minute walk from Basingstoke station, which matters on 20 November because Market Place, Winchester Street, Church Street, Cross Street, London Street and Wote Street are all closed to traffic that day. Still to be announced

• The Malls festive market, if it returns. Expect any announcement in October.
